You can open the Options dialog by clicking Options (Menu->Tools->Options) menu item. The OK button saves the current options and closes the dialog. The Cancel button cancels the changes and closes the dialog (the Esc key does the same). The Apply button saves the current changes without closing the dialog.

The Options dialog enables you to customize MP3 Tag Editor software and it is divided into several tabs for your convenience:

MP3 Tags tab:

This tab enables you to specify the options for reading and saving MP3 tags.

There are six modes for reading tags:

·Read IDv1 tags only
·Read IDv2 tags only
·Smart read (empty tags first, then IDv1 tags)
·Smart read (empty tags first, then IDv2 tags)
·Smart read (IDv1 tag first)
·Smart read (IDv2 tag first)

and three modes for saving them:

·Write IDv1 tags only
·Write IDv2 tags only
·Write IDv1 and IDv2 tags

The third and forth reading modes are useful for recognizing empty tags, the fifth and the sixth ones are useful for receiving maximum information from both tags.

FreeDB tab:

This tab enables you to customize the work with the FreeDB database.

The FreeDB Server field contains the current FreeDB server address, using which the software will try to obtain the information on albums. The Get active FreeDB server list button allows you to receive the list of working FreeDB servers. The Email field must contain your email address used as an identifier when sending information to the FreeDB server.

Playlist tab:

This tab contains the options related to creating playlists:

Add extended information into playlist option enables you to add some additional information about tracks to the playlist: length, artist's name, track title.

Write full file path option enables you to save the file name with the full path. It is useful if you create a compilation containing tracks from different folders on your computer. But if you create your compilation on a CD or DVD this option should be disabled. Otherwise some players will not be able to find the files or the actual path will not coincide with the created one.

Default playlist name editing field contains the mask according to which the playlist name is generated. The latter is used in the quick playlist creation options. The mask consists of text and special character combinations replaced by their current values later on. The following values are supported:

Character
Value
%1
Artist
%2
Year
%3
Album
%4
Folder name

You can see the result generated out of the mask below the input field. For example, %1 - %3 is used as the default mask. The result generated out of this mask will be Artist - Album. That mean %1 will be replaced with the artist's name, %3 will be replaced with the album title.

After specifying the playlist name mask, you can safely use the Quick Playlist Creation feature.

Rename Files tab:

This tab enables you to customize the quick file and folder renaming masks.

In the File Name field you should specify a mask consisting of text and special character combinations that are later replaced with their current values. The following values are supported:

Character
Value
%1
Artist
%2
Album
%3
Title
%4
Year
%5
Genre
%6
Play Time
%7
Track number
%8
File Number
%9
File Name

Below the input field you can see the result generated out of the mask. For example, %8+%3 is used as the mask. FileNumber+Title will be the result generated. The number of file will replace %8 and the title of song will replace %3.

After specifying the mask for renaming files, you can safely use the Quick Rename Files feature.

In the Folder Name field you should specify a mask for naming folders. The mask works in the same way as for files and playlists. The following values are supported:

Character
Value
%1
Artist
%2
Year
%3
Album

Below the input field you can see the result of mask usage. For example, %1-%3(%2) will be Artist-Album(Year)

After specifying the mask for renaming folders, you can use the Quick Rename Folder feature.
