MP3 Tag Editor has a browser styled user interface. The main program window consists of several parts:
Menu and toolbar:
The main program menu and toolbar are on the top. You may customize the appearance of toolbar and contents of menu. All actions and options of MP3 Tag Editor are available through menu and toolbar.
Folders tree view:
The folder tree (on the left) enables you to select the current folder. Its contents will be displayed in the file list on the right.
File list view:
The file list (big right part of window) is a key and multifunctional element of the interface enabling you to view and edit music file tags. This unique feature is possible due to the built-in input fields enabling you to edit the information directly in the list.
The file list has customizable columns. Any changes in the column view, location and dimensions are saved. You can customize the column view using the popup menu (right click the column header in the file list). You can change the column size and location by dragging the column borders or headers. Besides, you can sort the file list by any column.
The file list is refreshed dynamically, i.e. the information on the folder contents is received only when it is opened. Besides, the general information appears in all the corresponding service fields of the folder itself as well as of all its parent folders. This information is dynamically changed once any file in the current folder is modified or a new folder is opened. For example, the header of the current folder contains the total file size, their length, average bitrate, etc. The information is updated on each next upper level, it means that once you open a folder or change its contents, the data will be updated on all the upper levels. Thus, say, you can find out the size or the length of all tracks located on an digital music compact disc or in the folder with your music collection.
The file list can also show information about the audio disk currently inserted in the CD/DVD drive. First, it reads the information about the length of all tracks and, if available, the CD Text information (the artist's name and track names). You can also get the information about the tracks from the FreeDB database by clicking the FreeDB button and opening the corresponding dialog box. The obtained information is saved onto your hard disk and will later be available when the audio disc is read for the second time. You can refresh the CD Text information by pressing F5. In this case, an optional warning message will be displayed and the current information will be cleared. The current information source is displayed in the lower-right information box. You can copy the information about the disk onto the clipboard (Ctrl+C).
Tags editing panel:
The tags editor is a panel with a set of corresponding fields enabling you to edit tags of the files you select. You can hide the tags editor, move it to the top of the form or open it in a separate window. You can read more in the tags editor panel topic.
